DODGE CITY, Kan. – Saturday night went fast at Dodge City Raceway Park and the competition was fierce among IMCA Modifieds, Hobby Stock, Northern Sportmod, Stock Car and Sprint Car drivers.

Taylor Velasquez was victorious in the United Rebel Sprint Series competition. Velasquez went above the cushion on lap 10 of 25 laps to finish the A main on top after taking a 9 second advantage over Jeremy Huish and Zach Blurton. Velasquez has notably won the most races in the sprint car division at DCRP.

IMCA Modified heat race winner Jake Nightingale picked the pocket and took the win on the last lap after holding off fierce competitor Arizona racer Kelsie Foley. Foley started the Modified feature in the rear and gassed it, taking the lead for nearly 19 laps until Hutchinson resident Nightingale clinched the 20-lap victory. After winning his heat race, Clay Sellard of Bucklin started eighth in the A-main and came up third, but remains on top of the IMCA weekly points for Modifieds. During the victory lane celebration, Nightingale thanked his supporters, including his main sponsor Mel Hambelton Ford in Wichita.

Hobby Stock heat winner Dion Priddy was the eventual main event winner after Bingston Rogers was disqualified. Brett “Cowboy” Copeland from Fowler and Manuel Salazar and Dustin Kreger were third and fourth.

After finishing third in his heat, Brian May took home the top spot in the Northern Sportmod A-main. There was close racing among top contenders with brothers Monty and Brendyn Nordyke of Holly finishing second and third, respectively.

Heat race winners Ondre Rexford and Ron Hartmen advanced and had a fierce 18-lap battle with Colorado-based Stock Car driver Angel Munoz finishing first. Jason Rogers of Selden came in second and Troy “Gentle Giant” Burkhart in third place. Rexford’s night ended unfortunately with a spectacular crash.

Saturday night’s event was timely and again the racing was great for the new promoters fourth event of the season. Racing will resume on Friday July 16th with the IMCA Weekly Classes: URSS Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Northern Sport Mods, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts.
